Tri-Valley Cultural Jews Passover Seder

TVCJ’s annual community seder will be held at the Bothwell Arts Center, 2466 8th Street in Livermore on Saturday, March 31 at 5 p.m.  Reservations are required.  To reserve a space and receive a potluck assignment, please call (510) 888-1404 or e-mail Reservations@EastBayCulturalJews.org by March 26. Food need not be kosher for Passover.  There is a requested donation of $25/adult non-member of TVCJ.  Children are welcome.  Our secular seder, replete with songs songs of resistance and hope, uses an English-language progressive Secular haggadah highlighting the power of community and the value of freedom.  The hour-long ceremony, followed by a potluck dinner, is family-friendly (but not child-centered).

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews Purim Celebration

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews will be holding a secular Purim celebration on Sunday, March 4 from 10:30 – 12:30 at the Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore. We will make hamantaschen, have crafts, games, and fun for all ages, and present our annual Purim skit. Attendees are welcome to come dressed as their favorite Purim character. This event is free for TVCJ members, and costs $10 for non-members (which can be applied to a membership if someone wishes to join). The Bothwell Arts center is located at 2466 8th St. in Livermore.

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews Tu B’Shvat Celebration

Come join Tri-Valley Cultural Jews for our Tu B’Shvat celebration. Great for families with kids! We will have a fun interactive presentation lead by a Naturalist from Tree Frog Treks who will bring some Reptiles & Amphibians. We will get a hands-on look at their Animal Ambassadors and their relationship to the environment.

After the presentation, we will have a potluck lunch. Please bring a dish that includes one of the seven species indigenous to Israel (raisins, dates, figs, carob, olive, citrus or almond). Free to members. $5 per adult non-members.

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews Hanukkah

Join the Tri-Valley Cultural Jews on Friday, December 15 from 6:00 – 8:00pm for an evening of latkes, light, music and yummy food. Our celebration this year will be at the Mogilefsky home, 18929 California St. in Castro Valley. Bring your menorah, and gather as we light our candles together, sing traditional holiday songs, and eat the freshly fried latkes pouring from the kitchen. Sukkot

On October 8th,from 10:30-12:30 the Tri-Valley Cultural Jews will be raising a sukkah! It will be at 19663 Fremery Ct in Castro Valley we will come together to build the sukkah and to enjoy a potluck brunch and other activities for adults and kids. Please bring a branch for the roof of the sukkah, a potluck brunch dish to share and a fruit to hang from the sukkah. Suggested donation for non-members is $10 per adult.

Yom Kippur Observances

Join Tri-Valley Cultural Jews for two Yom Kippur events.  First, is our Kol Nidre observance on Friday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bothwell Arts Center (2466 8th St.) in Livermore. This will be a one-hour program of readings in English with music.  Suggested donation of $10 per non-member adult.  The following day, Saturday, September 30 will be our Yom Kippur Observance (also at the Bothwell Arts Center) from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.  This will be another program of music and readings in English.  Breakout sessions will focus on working in local interfaith organizations, confronting our privilege, the Enlightenment (historical and personal), and storytelling.  Suggested donation $20 for non-member adults.  We’ll be collecting donations for hurricane relief at both events.

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews – Rosh Hashanah

Join Tri-Valley Cultural Jews in celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish New Year, on September 20 from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore. TVCJ celebrates Jewish holidays with a Secular Humanistic perspective that is true to Jewish culture. Focusing on the Rosh Hashana traditions of self-reflection and tikkun olam, repair of the world, the program will include readings, music and sounding of the shofar. This will be followed by a reception with apples, honey and homemade challah. Kids are welcome. Suggested donation $20/ non-member adult. If you decide to become a member your donation will be applied to your membership fee. Donations will be collected for the local food bank, so please bring non-perishable food items to donate.

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews Intro to Jewish Culture School

Join us on Sunday, September 10 from 10:30 – 12:30 at Alden Lane Nursery as we begin our Jewish Culture School year! We will learn about (and taste) apples and honey. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Tri-Valley Cultural Jews and our Jewish Culture School, which focuses on Jewish culture and history. Our curriculum provides a hands-on, fun learning experience featuring dancing, singing, and cooking.  We focus on Jewish culture and history. JCS is open to ages 6 through 14, leading to a Secular Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
